Sweet Nothings
The Bite
Wanna sugar up your honey? The Chicago Honey Co-op is the bee’s knees when it comes to its main prized product (used by chefs around the city – and by us, on wedges of stinky blue…mmm), but don’t overlook other golden gifts from the HC’s 3 mil bees, including bath scrubs, lip balm, and unscented candles. We’re abuzz right now about the votives and tealights, crafted with organic
beeswax, which burns clean (no soot) and lasts up to five times longer than petroleum-based paraffin. Founded three years ago by birds-and-bees expert Michael Thompson, HC’s a sustainable operation too - mentoring beekeepers and selling its products through local vendors and online. A real honey, if you ask us.
