Tache Down

06.22.2009

The Bite:
Want in on a Super Bowl…or plate of food? Huddle up at La Tache resto, which just reopened with a fresh look and menu. Instead of one big room, there's now a sidewalk patio, cozy bar, and a skylit dining room, where you can order things like French-inspired steak and fries, and Gruyere gnocchi. Better yet: Much of it's made from organic and local food from Green City Market, Rushing Waters, and antibiotic-free Gunthorp meat. Be sure to tackle a slice of the tart of the day before you leave.
Why Care?:
Eating locally grown food saves fuel and averts emissions from farm-to-plate transport, and helps put some ch'ching back into the local economy.
In between mouthfuls of the juicy Country Cottage Farms free-range chicken with Wisconsin morel ragout (ooh là là), we lapped up rich and plumy biodynamic Heron Merlot.
Wanna Try:
La Tache Bistro & Bar, 1475 W. Balmoral Ave.,‎ Andersonville (773-334-7168‎). Heron Merlot, Vin de Pays, $9/glass.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters eat a locally sourced meal once a month instead of one made with food transported from afar, in a year we'll save 58 bathtubs full of fuel.

Yikes, the owner of La Tache is currently in a lawsuit with 2 different employees that she refused to pay, and one where she fired because of an injury. Not sure I want to support this place.
