Bike Swap

Wheelin' and Dealin'

04.15.2009

The Bite:
Wanna fast-talk your way outta storing your 10-year-old ten-speed? Hawk and/or upgrade your wheels at the Arlington Heights Bike Swap. Shop for fixed-gear bikes and accessories too (locks, racks…), or, if you're selling: Hand your cruiser to a volunteer before noon, name your price, and cash out between 4 and 5 pm (check out Centennial Park's wetlands/b-ball courts - or drink while you wait). Entry's free, so drive, hoof it, or grab your Metra pass - it's two bike-able miles from the Wheeling stop (strangely enough…) - and get a deal.
Why Care?:
Around 130 million new bikes are made each year; buying used saves the metal, steel, and rubber needed for production and keeps repairable and/or perfectly workable bikes outta landfills.
We're looking to trade up for the upcoming bike-a-thon after taking it to the volunteers in the free maintenance area to make sure it's road-safe.
Wanna Try:
Arlington Heights Bike Swap; Apr. 25, 9 am-4 pm; Centennial Park tennis courts, 1209 Burr Oak Dr., Arlington Heights. Used bikes, $10-$500; selling fee, 10%.

Cocktail Fact

The longest bike parade on record was in Taipei City, Taiwan, in 2001, at almost 2,000 bikes long.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters buy or sell a used bike instead of throwing it away, we'll keep the weight of 1,097 Lance Armstrongs in steel and rubber out of landfills.

why not just fix up your old bike and USE it? instead of getting rid of it? and i will go just to count how many fixed gears are there....lol
