Boo-zey Biters - Halloween Prep Week

10.24.2008

The Bite:
imageSeeing spirits on Halloween? We sure hope so - the cocktail kind, anyway. And you can start with organic Vodka 14, made from Rocky Mountain spring water, plus family-farmed corn and rye. After some serious taste testing (what we won't do for you...): It's smooth enough to sip alone (slightly sweet, FYI), but we liked it best blended with pumpkin, ice, and a half shot of vanilla extract (other V14 seasonal cocktails here). You can recycle every piece of the packaging - from the baked-on ceramic labeling to its PVC-free plastic sealing rings. Even better: None of the genetically modified ingredients or pesticides used in conventional vodka production go into V14. Intoxicating.
Wanna Try:
Vodka 14, available at Applejack Wine & Spirits, 3320 Youngfield St., near I-70 exit 264 (303-233-3331). Bottle, $30/750 milliliters.

Cocktail Fact

The 1980 horror film The Changeling was based on stories of hauntings in a Denver mansion near Cheesman Park.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Denver Biters enjoy two drinks made with organic vodka instead of conventional booze, we'll keep eight martini glasses' worth of pesticides from pouring into the environment.
