The Bite:

Holy seasonal tastiness, Biters! Call on cuisine scene superhero Duo next time you're hungry. This cozy resto does winter right with contemporary American food featuring just a smidgen of global fusion with the best of our local CO bounty. Right now that means goat cheese stuffed dates, Cassoulet (a meaty stew - and staff fave), and the Winter Nut Torte (skip dessert at your own risk) made with ingredients from farmers markets and chem-free producers like Red Wagon. Wash it down with local beers or a bottle of biodynamic, organic, or locally made vino (we advise guzzling the Alfred Eames Estate Pinot Noir). To keep fuel use even more minimal, the owner's Batmobile (a Volkswagen diesel) runs on Duo's waste veggie oil powers. Kapow.

Wanna Try:

Duo, 2413 W. 32nd Ave. Map It (303-477-4141). Stuffed Dates, $7; Cassoulet, $20; Winter Nut Torte, $7.50.

Cocktail Fact

The set design for the film Batman (1989) deliberately mixed clashing architectural styles to make Gotham City the ugliest and bleakest metropolis imaginable.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Denver Biters eat just one locally produced meal a week, in a year we'll save enough oil to fill 650 kiddie pools.
