On the Hunt

The Bite:
imageProwling for tools to unleash your inner tigress? Or maybe just stuff to make Mom a scarf? Go wild tracking down craft supplies at Fancy Tiger Crafts, home to artsy everything, from ribbon to organic fabrics. We picked up some skeins of supersoft Pinon Wood Ranch alpaca yarn (we're into heavy petting) plus embroidery patterns (skull and crossbones, meet linen tea towel) from Sublime Stitching. No worries if you missed Home Ec in high school, either - just sign up for a workshop on sewing, knitting, crocheting, felting, or spinning (apparently not the panting-on-a-bike-going-nowhere kind). Using natural and local fibers reduces the petroleum used to produce and transport ticky-tacky, craft-store yarn. Rowwwl.
Wanna Try:
Fancy Tiger Crafts, 1 S. Broadway (303-733-3855). Needle Felting 101 class, $30 (all supplies included).

Cocktail Fact

The world's longest knitted scarf was 33 miles long; 2,000 people in Wales hand-knitted it over 18 months (why? We don't know).

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Denver Biters buy one skein of locally produced alpaca wool yarn instead of a Peruvian import, it'll have the same CO2-reducing effect as removing 3,100 cars from the road for a year.
