Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Powder - Ski Week

12.15.2008

The Bite:
imageHere's a declaration: Liberty Skis is ready to help you exercise your right to make turns. Its, um, signature ski - the ultralight, ultrafat (121 mm) Double Helix - practically floats in powder, while the Larose gives you plenty of balance for park riding (or for just avoiding face plants). And the bright colors and geometric designs'll help you find your planks again after a two-hot-toddy lunch. All LS skis have a flexible bamboo core, which makes them incredibly responsive but firm enough for hard landings. Bamboo's rapidly renewable too - way better than petroleum-based polyurethane (used for most skis) - and LS makes its skis in a 100% wind-powered plant in Avon. Right-eous.
Wanna Try:
Liberty Skis, available at Alpine Sports, 2510 47th St., Boulder. Map It (303-325-3231). Skis, $450 and up; Double Helix, $775.

Cocktail Fact

The inscription on the Liberty Bell mentions "Pensylvania"; the common spelling - with two Ns - wasn't universally adopted when the bell was forged.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Denver Biters opt for skis crafted from bamboo instead of polyurethane, we'll keep the weight of 333 Thomas Jeffersons in plastic outta  landfills.
