Pie in the Sky

The Bite:
imageThink vegan + pizza + flavor in the Mile High City sounds ludicrous? So did we, until we had a bite of City, O' City's organic thin crust with spicy seitan sausage, caramelized onions, and fresh sage. Even us pepperoni freaks went back for sec, er, thirds - and all for the same dough as any gourmet pie in town. Can't do no-cheese pizza? The veggie with brie and apricot sauce was so rich and sweet it should come à la mode. For real dessert, nab a better-than-when-you-were-in-braces Ho Hos cupcake (the big kid's version's made fresh, gluten-free, and organic). Plus, you'll slice CO2 emissions by 13 pounds every time you go meatless. Not a believer yet? Half-price Champagne Thursdays will have you convinced and/or tipsy.
Wanna Try:
City, O' City, 206 E. 13th Ave. b/t Grant and Sherman Sts. (303-831-6443). Organic thin crust pizza, $8 small/$22 large.

Cocktail Fact

When a PA delivery guy wasn't dropping off pizzas, he used a stretcher in the back of his station wagon to transport corpses to funeral homes. Unsavory as it sounds, it didn't violate any health codes.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Denver Biters go vegan for one meal a week, in a year we'll avert the amount of CO2 produced by 548 pizza delivery cars.
