Root, Root, Root for the Home Team

03.06.2009

The Bite:
…er, local food, that is. Take yourself out to Root Down – when warm weather hits, it’ll be growing its own produce, rooftop. This swanky, globally influenced new spot whips up creative eats such as Asian-meets-Italian Organic Smoked Portabello and Leek Wonton with mascarpone cheese, as well as stuff like Veggie Burger Sliders – served with red pepper jam and sweet potato fries. What it doesn’t grow, it gets from local farms, including Abbondanza and Cure Organic Farm. And the old ball game? RD’s flooring’s from an old b-ball court; the bar’s made from bowling alley lanes.
Wanna Try:
Root Down, 1600 W. 33rd Ave. Map It (303-993-4200). Veggie Burger Sliders, $9.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Denver Biters eat half their produce from local sources, in a year we’ll avert the amount of CO2 produced by 1.5 million cars.
