So(da) On and So Forth

The Bite:
imageIt's the real thing. Obey your thirst. Whatevs. Boulder-based Oogavé makes soda that just tastes really good. It comes in offbeat flaves (subtly sweet Watermelon Cream, where have you been all our lives?) - as well as old standbys like frothy Rootbeer and a biting Ginger Ale. Oogavé uses bottling equipment it rescued from a defunct Pepsi plant. And its ingredients are things like fruit extracts and organic agave nectar - instead of resource-intensive refined sugar or high-fructose corn syrup (both of which often come from GM crops). The cola even gets a little caffeine boost from green tea leaves (but you can't taste 'em). Sweet. Awesome. Etc.

Oogavé Natural Soda, available at Vitamin Cottage, 2033 S. Colorado Blvd. Map It (303-756-8400). Four-pack, $4/12 ounces each.

Cocktail Fact

Aussies have another use for agave - they use the plants' dried stalks to make musical instruments called didgeridoos.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Denver Biters drink one pop made with agave nectar instead of a conventional soda, we'll keep enough refined sugar to fill three Hummer gas tanks out of our bods.
