If it really is all about who you know, it's time to get to meetin'! Hit up some green job listings and start networking (yes, beyond Facebook).
- Sustainlane and Green Dream Jobs - green-collar job boards that list hundreds of jobs across the country, from LEED building construction workers to eco-focused nonprof administrators (don't miss Sustainlane's schmoozin' tips).
- Idealist - nonprof and volunteer job listings, as well as resources to help you hone in on what you're looking for.
- Green Drinks - find a boozy eco-networking event in your neck of the woods.
- Volunteering and Internships - volunteer at eco-nonprofs like The Nature Conservancy or Surfrider Foundation, and don't underestimate internships and or low-paying jobs (especially if you're contemplating a career change) - they can lead to bigger and greener things.
Tips & Tricks:
WARNING: Once you get a new job, you may experience bathrobe withdrawal. Talk to your new boss (if that's not you) about working from home 1 day a week. Over the course of the year, it'll avert the CO2 emissions of one cross-country flight. If they won't or can't agree, you might need to get creative.
