Look Hot in Your Spandex and Cape
Or, you know, regular clothes. You may not be raking it in, but you can still look like a million bucks.
- Throw a swap party - host a BYOB swap party with friends (make sure to invite whoever's outfits you covet).
- Raid closets - check Mom's and Grandma's closets for snazzy vintage duds you can steal - or borrow from a stylish friend.
- Fix clothes you've got - take a few of your extra minutes to stitch a ripped seam or reattach a button to put stuff you already have back into commission (also a great time to fish for missing socks behind the dryer). Or if you're seam-ingly challenged (or want to rework something completely), hit up a tailor instead - it's still a thriftier and more eco option than buying new.
- Bag Borrow or Steal - rent designer handbags, jewelry, sunglasses, and even watches from $25 a month.
- Get a cheap 'do - look up an eco-friendlier beauty school near you like Aveda. Student cuts and colors are way cheaper, and there's a pro looking over their shoulder. Same goes for dental school if you need a cleaning.
- Work out, outdoors - quit the AC-blasting, music-blaring gym, and stay fit by taking it outside or hitting a hiking trail - it's free, and going treadmill-less saves loads of electricity.

Top 5 Reasons to Hit the Library:
- Free Internet - in case you're strapped and need to ditch the DSL at home (or just need to get out of the house).
- Librarians - think free research assistant. They'll help you track down resources to research new fields, prep for interviews, and search for jobs.
- Free DVDs - it's no Netflix, but most libraries have lots of titles to choose from. (For strategies on how to drink, smoke, and make out with the hotties at your future workplace, two words: Mad Men.)
- Language tapes - ¿habla Español? or parle Italiano? your way into a rad international gig...or just earn bilingual bragging rights.
- Uh, books - when else are you gonna have the time to read War and Peace?
