sf day 1
Day 1
Wanna chill for a few, post-flight? Drop your bags at the boutique-y Orchard Hotel (rooms: $115-$250) for eco-friendly, chic downtown digs. Just a couple blocks down, hit the rooftop bar at the pricier Orchard Garden Hotel for a glass (or three) of organic Bokisch rosé vino.
After, head down Bush St. and turn left on Grant through Chinatown on your way to visit the SOL-inspired (sustainable, organic, local) Ferry Building Marketplace (farmers line up on Saturdays 8 am-2 pm, 10 am-2 pm weekdays) – just hop on the cable car at the end of Grant at California St. (walk up to Powell St. stop) and get off at Drumm (FBM’s across the street). Slurp so-fresh, local half shells or the SF-staple creamy clam chowder at FBM’s Hog Island Oysters while you take in Bay views. For dessert, your choice: cupcakes, gelato, or nutella-filled, sugar-laced bombolloni (think crack meets donuts) in the market hall.
Wave b’bye to the Bay Bridge and catch the Muni F streetcar toward Jones St./Beach St., hopping off at the Sansome stop. Inhale deeply, before taking the 8-minute, steep walk up Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower, a 210-foot-high Art Deco tower with panaram-ific city views. Head back down the garden-lined Fillmore St. steps (listen for the city’s celeb parrots), stroll around Little Italy-esque North Beach, and wind up at Peňa Pachamama for an organic Bolivian grubfest - with live music/flamenco five nights a week.

On the Cheap...
The FBM hosts free cooking demos (free nibbles too) along the front of the building during Saturday’s farmers market hours.
