Opening Up (Your Cabinets)
Surprise: You've already got the makings for nontox cleaners in your cupboards. Just mix together a few household staples like baking soda, vinegar, and (we swear you're not cooking) vegetable-based soap, and get scrubbin'. A few key recipes:
Glass cleaner: Mix 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 tsp biodegradable liquid soap or detergent, and 2 cups water in a spray bottle.
All purpose cleaner: Mix 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda (or 2 tsp borax) into 1/2 gal (2 L) water. Add essential oils to lose the eau de salad dressing.
Drain clog preventer: For light drain cleaning, mix 1/2 cup salt in 4 L water, heat (but not to a boil) and pour down the drain. For clogs, use a drain snake - watch our Video Bite how-to.

STAT: Each year, 25,000+ kids in the United States "are exposed to" (EPA code for "have accidents involving") chlorine bleach.
