Art Blanche

The Bite:
imageWanna ditch the docent and check out galleries at your own damn pace? Hop the metro and take charge of your itinerary at the Downtown Art Walk, a self-guided tour of LA's art galleries. Venue maps (download one here or grab one at any gallery) will help you navigate over three dozen of 'em on or around Gallery Row (reuse or recycle after). Don't miss Pharmaka Gallery, showcasing contemporary art amidst low-energy LED lighting; sustainable furniture made from recycled milk cartons (it does a planet good) and reclaimed teak wood; and one really big fan - part of its eco air circulation system. Also stop by M.J. Higgins Gallery to admire Len Davis's mixed-media collage and Jerry Hanson's eye-catching woven newspaper designs. Powerful.
Wanna Try:
Downtown Art Walk; Oct. 9, noon–9 p.m. and the second Thursday of each month; Art Ride meets at 5 p.m. at Downtown Art Gallery.
