Battery Recycling

Assault and Batteries

04.27.2009

The Bite:
Need to kick those dead AAs to the curb? It's actually illegal to toss them in LA, so beat the rap and recycle 'em instead. (Then go pick up some rechargeables.) Drop 'em off at participating public libraries (and nab your next juicy read while you're at it), or IKEA or Target stores. (Follow our links below for locations.) Or hit up LA Bureau of Sanitation's S.A.F.E. centers - it disposes of other hazardous household waste like paint, solvents, and cleaners too. Case closed.
Why Care?:
Keeping batteries outta the dump ensures that corrosive chems like cadmium and mercury don't leach through landfill liners and get into our groundwater.
We got some rechargeables from Green Batteries for our, um, friend's vibrator.

Cocktail Fact

Kenley Collins, a finalist from season five of Project Runway, was arrested last month after allegedly assaulting her fiancé - with a cat.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters recycle eight batteries instead of dropping them into the trash, we'll keep the weight of 82 criminals in chem-laden waste out of landfills.
