Beauty School Drop-In

04.20.2009

The Bite:
Want your bangs curled or lashes twirled? Turn in your own teasin' comb, and drop in to (or make an appointment for) Aveda Institute LA's Beauty for a Cause event on Earth Day. Make any donation to the ocean-protecting Surfrider Foundation in exchange for a free haircut, makeup application, express massage, or polish change by a beauty school student using Aveda's plant-based, mostly organic prods. (And nab tix to AILA's Grand Opening Fashion Night Benefit, to check out trends and score a gift basket - including one with tix to Ellen.) Baby don't blow it, er, miss it.
Why Care?:
Certified organic ingredients means no iffy chems on your face (the FDA's only tested about 11% of the 10,000+ chems in beauty products), and the money you donate to Surfrider'll go toward preserving our oceans and beaches.
There's an expert stylist working alongside the student (not that we don't trust that they're well-trained, but…), so we're in.
Wanna Try:
Aveda Institute of LA's Beauty for a Cause; Apr. 22, 10 am-9 pm; 10935 Weyburn Ave., Westwood (310-209-2000). Grand Opening Fashion Night Benefit, May 5, 6:30-10 pm.

Cocktail Fact

In the film Grease (1978), Rizzo's hickeys were real: Stockard Channing said in an interview that Jeff Conaway (who played Kenickie) insisted on applying them himself.

Small Changes Add Up

Getting pampered with eco-beauty supplies keeps chems in conventional products off your bod - and handing over some bucks to Surfrider means cleaner oceans.
