High Five: Online Magazine Editor-in-Chief

Cuckoo for Coco Eco

05.29.2009

The Bite:
If you see Anna Griffin, editor-in-chief of Coco Eco Magazine, give her mad props with a big high five. This Angeleno started her digital mag last fall, covering eco fashion, beauty, culture, and celebrity. The current edition's the International Eco Fashion Issue, showcasing global sustainable fashion trends, with Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell gracing the cover - we're nuts about her too.
What drove you to get involved with being green?
AG: I've always been sensitive in my lifestyle choices, but felt an overwhelming call to action three years ago when the news about global warming was becoming so frequent, I couldn't ignore it. To imagine our planet without such simple things that we take for granted, such as clean drinking water, or the thought that one day polar bears might only exist in captivity really shocked me.

If you were going to a green carpet event, which eco-designer would you wear?
AG: I love Leila Hafzi, whose gowns are as ethical as they are glamorous. And of course Linda Loudermilk. She is so innovative with fabrics and tailoring, and her pieces are exquisite.

What's your eco pet peeve?
AG: My biggest aggravation is seeing litter. I'm one of those people who is constantly picking up others' trash when walking my dogs.

What's your eco-confession?
AG: It's a biggie, but I love traveling, flying in particular, which is obviously disastrous for the environment. [But] when I do travel, I do my part by offsetting my CO2, being mindful of how and where I tread, and always looking for an airline that has a substantial environmental initiative, such as Virgin.

Wanna Try:
You can usually spot Anna lunching at M Café on Melrose, 7119 Melrose Ave. (323-525-0588).

Cocktail Fact

Chuck McCann, the original voice of Cocoa Puffs' Sonny the Cuckoo Bird, is a pal of Hugh Hefner's and a regular at the Playboy Mansion.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters get their eco fashion fix online instead of buying a nonrecycled mag, we'll save 67 trees.
