Don't Dillydeli...

06.17.2009

The Bite:
…speed over to Italian-style The Deli at Little Dom's for Father's Day (or any other day) to chow there or get it to go. Most dads'll dig the no frills, casual atmosphere sporting retro-cool stuff like a restored antique deli case, a vintage wood bar, even salvaged windows. You (and sure, Dad…) can nosh on food made from mostly organic stuff straight from the nearby H'wood farmers market, such as Farro and Grilled Vegetable Salad or the Italian Wedding Soup (house fave), plus seasonal specials like the Fried Oyster Po Boy. Go, like, now.

Why Care?:
Keeping food local cuts transport emissions and fuel use, and vintage/repurposed furniture means fewer resources used to make new stuff.
Snag a dessert-in-a-jar (see photo) like the yum-ola Lemon-Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta. You can bring the jar back for $1 off your next visit, but we're finding uses for ours at home.
Wanna Try:
The Deli at Little Dom's, 2128 Hillhurst Ave. (323-661-0055). Farro and Grilled Vegetable Salad, $11; Lemon-Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta, $4.

Cocktail Fact

Little Dom's is owned by the same peeps who brought us Dominick's and the 101 Coffee Shop.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters eat a salad made from local ingredients just once a month (instead of from veggies shipped cross-country), in a year we'll conserve about 40 kitchen sinks full of diesel fuel.
