Food + Lab = ?

04.03.2009

The Bite:
The answer to your hunger pangs. WeHo's new organic Austrian café and minimarket, Food+Lab's got hearty eats like a thick grilled sandwich with double cream brie (we dipped ours in the marinaraesque Tomato Soup). Or share a giant portion of crisp Chicken Wiener Schnitzel with lingonberry chutney, or the Bavarian Bratwurst with a tangy, slow-cooked sauerkraut – served on bamboo boards – all 100% hormone-free meats. Dine on the patio, or just grab a DIY lunch to go like a baguette and some Italian charcuterie (the bresaola = awesome). Unlike conventional nosh, F+L's locally produced grub shrinks fuel use and emissions, but it's equally tasty.
Wanna Try:
Food+Lab Café & Marketplace, 7253 Santa Monica Blvd., WeHo. Map It (323-851-7120). Chicken Wiener Schnitzel, $9; Bavarian Bratwurst, $10; Tomato Soup, $5.

Cocktail Fact

In 1991, a mummified body from the Stone Age was found in the ice of the Otztal Alps between Austria and Italy – and it had tattoos thought to have resulted from some form of acupuncture.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters eat locally for 1 month, we'll save enough gas to drive from LA to NY and back nearly 1,500 times.
