Garden of Eco

The Bite:
image Want sinfully fresh fruit (and veggies) in your own backyard? Start by picking from a tree of knowledge: an organic gardening intro class by Tara Kolla, whose flowers have brightened local farmers markets since '04. Postpone your mani-pedi, and head over to her bloomin' half-acre on Silver Lake Farms for a 2-hr crash course on starting a successful garden, big or small. Tara will show you how to fight off pests without pesticides or chems, and introduce you to the beauty of compost as fertilizer. The hands-on portion will get you digging up dirt and sowing seeds in no time - whether you want to grow carrots, tulips, or forbidden-apple trees in your backyard.
Wanna Try:
Silver Lake Farms Organic Gardening Workshop; Apr. 12, 3-5 p.m. (323-578-4820). Class, starter seeds and materials, and refreshments, $40/person.
