The Bite:
If you see ex-pro skater Pierre André Senizergues (that's
sen-ee-ZEHR-guh) on Route 66 (or wherever)
handing out shoes to LA's homeless, give him a high five. This month, the founder/CEO of Lake Forest eco-forward skate footwear company
Sole Technology is launching
C-PAS, a dressy (think blazers and tuxedos) menswear line made outta stuff like recycled parachutes and audiocassette tape. Here's Pierre's latest tune.
What drove you to get involved with green?
Pierre: Growing up skateboarding [in Paris], it was very difficult to breathe from all of the pollution - skateboarders need clean air to skate. To do the sports I love, I realized the need to reduce my impact and lighten my footprint so that I can continue to enjoy doing what I love in the future.
What have you done to reduce that impact?
Pierre: This past year the company reduced its energy by 13% - with an annual cost savings of $100,000.
What's your eco-confession?
Pierre: Flying. I am required to travel, but I try to do it only when necessary. Also, when I do travel, I either skateboard to get around or use public transportation. When I am in France I use the Vélib’, a public bicycle rental program.
