La Dolce Avita

The Bite:
imageThink a wardrobe refresh will make life sweeter? It will if it means something new from Avita Co-Op. Owner and designer Amanda Shi uses 100% recycled cashmere and surplus cashmere, bamboo (quickly renewable), and organic cotton (pesticide-free) to create casually elegant pieces such as cap-sleeve sweaters with attached scarves and T-shirt collar tops. Shi also stocks vintage items and goods from other eco-friendly designers - we're eyeing a pair of nautical-style slip-ons from Toms Shoes (and for each pair we buy, Toms'll give a pair to a child in need). Grab some new threads, and get on with your sweet life.
Wanna Try:
Avita Co-Op, 8213 W. 3rd St. b/t Harper and La Jolla Aves., WeHo (323-852-1716). Organic cotton top, $68.

Cocktail Fact

The word paparazzi comes from the name of the character Paparazzo, the newspaper photographer in Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters wear recycled cashmere instead of cashmere made from virgin materials, we'll use 97% less energy during production.
