Lost and Foundry

03.11.2009

The Bite:
Searching for food plus live music on the cheap? Found: The Foundry on Melrose, a casual, art-deco-inspired place to chow. On its new lounge menu is stuff like creamy Crab and Spinach Dip with Windrose Farm's oven-dried tomatoes; juicy free-range chicken breast with goat cheese polenta; and Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding with rum raisin ice cream – all made using organic ingredients sourced from local farmers. Drooling? It gets better. Each night there's live tunes with drink specials like Scotch & Songs Sundays (includes a comp scotch taste), Women & Whiskey Wednesdays, Absinthe & Jazz Thursdays…you get the idea. You really can't lose.
Wanna Try:
The Foundry on Melrose, 7465 Melrose Ave. Map It (323-651-0915). Crab and Spinach Dip, $8; Breast of Chicken, $18.

Cocktail Fact

A Phoenix, AZ, plumber found what is now hailed as "The Diamond in the Roughage," a $70,000, 7-carat diamond ring flushed down the toilet at a local diner.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters eat just one meal prepped with local ingredients rather than nonlocal ones, in a year we'll avert the CO2 emitted by 80 SUVs over that same period.
