Pulp Fig-tion

03.23.2009

The Bite:
OD'd on your go-to neighborhood resto? Grab your Honey Bunny (or whoever), and check out Fairmont Miramar Hotel's Fig, Santa Monica's newest seasonal bistro. Snag a barstool or one of the mini private rooms (no charge) in the modern space (which matches the hotel in niceness), and wash down local cheeses with an in-season cocktail, like the tangy Blueberry & Thyme. Its dishes are made with 90% organic and locally sourced ingredients, cutting down on pesticides and diesel fuel, respectively. We got our daily dose of lycopene with the slightly sweet and roast-y tomato soup (thanks Beylik Farms), and then devoured the sustainably farmed, melt-in-your-mouth Turbot with a helping of brown-buttered veggies – definitely beats a Royale with cheese.
Wanna Try:
Fig, at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, 101 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica. Map It (310-319-3111). Local Cheese Flight, $17; Turbot, $28.

Cocktail Fact

Although Samuel L. Jackson's character says he's quoting Ezekiel 25:17 in Pulp Fiction, very little of the passage he recounts is actually from the Bible.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters opt for tomato soup made from local tomatoes rather than nonlocal ones, we'll conserve about two bathtubs full of diesel fuel.
