Put Up a Stink

05.15.2008

The Bite:
imageEver hear the adage "fish and family smell after three days?" Spare yourself the stench altogether, and send your houseguests to Santa Monica's swanky beachfront Fairmont Miramar Hotel. This posh space is one of the first hotels in SoCal to receive Green Hotel Certification, recently building in water-conserving appliances and energy-saving fluorescent lighting amid ocean-view balconies and a stunning pool. If a room isn't in the budget, try a massage at Exhale Spa or just grab a glass of organic wine (to taste or guzzle, depending on who you're entertaining) and catch nightly jazz at the Koi Pond Lounge. Or, take your guests to dinner at its CA-cuisine restaurant, The Grille, where they can eat local fish...not smell like them.
Wanna Try:
The Fairmont Miramar Santa Monica, 101 Wilshire Blvd. b/t Ocean Ave. and 2nd St. (800-441-1414). Guest room, $319 and up/night.

Cocktail Fact

Sweden's 80-room Ice Hotel only exists between December and April; it melts every spring and is reconstructed every winter.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters stay at hotels with efficient toilets, faucets, and showerheads, we'll save enough water to fill about 1,352 hot tubs each night.
