Ring Around the Rose Bowl

07.10.2008

The Bite:
imageLove shopping, but got a pocket not-so-full of cash? Don't forget the Rose Bowl Flea Market - it's happening this Sunday, so grab a buddy’s hand, and head over for unmatched bargains. Sorting through 2,500 vendors makes for a long day, so skip the new stuff, arm yourself with a reusable water bottle, and head straight for the gems: At the front, hit the antique goods (Victorian-looking armoires to disco balls), then find the bridge and cross over into vintage clothes (cowboy boots to fetching frocks). We got a vendor down to $50 on a Moroccan-esque cocktail ring priced at $85, and then found out it was worth $300. Reviving old garments and furni cuts down on landfill and waste from the production of new materials, so shop until you all, um, fall down.
Wanna Try:
Rose Bowl Flea Market; Second Sun. of every month, 9 a.m-3 p.m., bartering OK through 4:30 p.m.; 1001 Rose Bowl Dr., Pasadena. Admission, $8. Free appraisal near entrance.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters buy a pair of vintage leather boots instead of new ones, we'll save the hides of over 1,600 cows and keep cancer-linked chems out of the environment.
