Local Vineyard

Rose(nthal)-colored Glasses

The Bite:
Summer wine tour through Italy not looking likely anymore? (Yeah, join the club.) The bright side: You can take a trip to Rosenthal vineyard in Malibu. Carpool with fellow winos and hit up the beachy-casual (flip-flops = no problem) tasting room located on the PCH, or make an appointment for a unique vineyard experience where a guide walks and talks you (for an extra fee) through over 17 acres of organically farmed vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay…across the street from the beach. Even better than expected.
Why Care?:
Buying locally produced wine minimizes transportation fuel use and emissions. Also cool: Wine made from organically grown grapes means fewer pesticides on the earth and lower levels of sulfites (i.e., less of a hangover).
We brought home a bottle of 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon - well balanced (not too acidic and not too heavy), with blackberry and raspberry flavors.
Wanna Try:
Rosenthal, 26023 Pacific Coast Hwy. (310-456-1392). 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, $38. Tour, $35/person (groups of 6-30 peeps).

Map It

Cocktail Fact

CA, NY, and FL are ranked the top three states in terms of wine consumption.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters swill a bottle of organic wine instead of nonorganic every week for a year, we'll keep the weight of a nearly full barrel of wine in pesticides outta the soil.
