Running on (Per)fumes

02.27.2009

The Bite:
Wanna put some new scents in your beauty tank? Venice's Strange Invisible Perfumes has the juice. This little boutique concocts rich - dare we say, complex – fragrances, lotions, and body washes. This March, SIP's adding three new scents (in parfum and eau de parfum) to its already 25-strong repertoire: Aquarian Roses (roses, marjoram, and sandalwood – and people will ask), Urban Lily (lily of the valley's sweetness but with oomph), and Epic Gardenia (smells exactly like the flower). SIP's 'fumes are spendy, but they'll stay on all night, and use organic, fair-trade, wildcrafted, or biodynamic plant essences set in a 100% organic grape alcohol base (most posh scents are packed with hormone-disrupting phthalates). Fill 'er up.
Wanna Try:
Strange Invisible Perfumes, 1138 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Map It (310-314-1505). Parfum, $210/0.25 ounce; eau de parfum, $175/1.7 ounces.

Cocktail Fact

Kids and boozehounds take note: You can buy cologne in fragrances as varied as Play-Doh and Gin & Tonic online these days.

Small Changes Add Up

Manufacturers aren't required to list perfume ingredients, so it's tough to know what you're spraying (though it's often a dose of hormone-disrupting chems) so opt for a fragrance sans the mystery ingredients.
