Sweet Streams

The Bite:
imageDo you dream in cookie? Feed your subconscious a few bite-size treats from Greenstream Gourmet. Flavors include Classic Chocolate Chip; Oatmeal Cranberry, packed with whole grain; and our dream come true, Brownie Mint (think Girl Scout Thin Mints in a soft, chewy form) – all baked up using only organic and local ingredients (such as eggs from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market). GG uses recycled boxes and paper infused with wildflowers when it prepares cookie favors for special events, and all the regular packaging is biodegradable (made from corn plastic or polylactic acid); embellished with tree-free labels made of bamboo and sugar; and printed with soy-based inks. Just don’t get crumbs on your pillow.
Wanna Try:
Greenstream Gourmet, available at Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits & Cheese, 223 N. Larchmont Blvd. (323-646-7231). Brownie Mint 6-pack, $9.50.

Cocktail Fact

In May of 2003, an NC bakery set the world record for the largest cookie ever made; the 102-foot chocolate-chip creation contained more than 10 million chocolate chunks and weighed more than 40,000 pounds.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters eat an organic baked good instead of a nonorganic one every day for a year, we'll keep the weight of eight cookie jars in pesticides out of the environment.
