Tavin Fever

07.10.2009

The Bite:
Don't isolate your style - get out and visit the whimsical boutique Tavin, opening its doors tomorrow. Browse boho chic vintage threads mixed in with edgy pieces by local designers like Justina Blankenly, whose eco-collection Compai includes high-waisted hemp pants that you can dress up or down. Also: stuff for your pad like poetry books made from former cardboard boxes. Tavin's built with eco-cred - some of the bars holding up the clothes were repurposed from a closed-down dance studio. We're crazy about it.
Why Care?:
Buying vintage clothes or wares made from reclaimed materials makes a bold eco-fashion statement, since they take no new resources to make.
We're excited about catching up with our fashion crush Justina at the launch party tomorrow night.
Wanna Try:
Tavin, 1543 Echo Park Ave., (310-704-6058). Tavin launch party, Jul. 11, 5pm-midnight. Compai high-waisted pants, $140.

Cocktail Fact

In the 1980 film The Shining (about cabin fever gone wrong), the image of the two girls in the hotel corridor was inspired by the photograph "Identical Twins, Roselle, New Jersey, 1967" by Diane Arbus.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters buy a vintage outfit instead of one made from new materials, we'll keep the weight of 962 mannequins in clothing out of landfills.
