Without Further Ado...

The Bite:
…let us introduce your hands to their new BFF. A pair of Pasadena lather lovers have mixed up a new bergamot-, olive-, and exotic grass-scented hand soap - called Further Soap. It's a tad pricey, and we're overusing it on a borderline OCD basis, but have been getting you-smell-so-good compliments even on no-perfume days. Stay tuned for candles and lotion too. This Ma-and-Pa (well, hubby and wife) operation picks up used veggie oil from LA restaurants, processes it into glycerin, then makes it into lush biodegradable soap. Their process also makes biofuel, which they use in their cars; and the restaurants that provide the oil get soap in exchange. Applause.

Further Soap, available at Apothica by Ron Robinson at Fred Segal Melrose, 8118 Melrose Ave. Map It (323-651-0239). Hand soap, $19/8 ounces.

Cocktail Fact

For the movie Fight Club, actor Brad Pitt learned how to make soap before playing a soap salesman.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters use a biodegradable hand soap instead of the conventional kind, in a year we'll keep 400 bucketfuls of synthetic chems from washing into our waterways.
