SMALL CHANGES ADD UP

If 10,000 LA Biters make their next jeans purchase organic, we'll keep the weight of nearly 56,000 boxes of mac and cheese in pesticide-treated cotton out of production.

COCKTAIL FACT

Oshkosh B'Gosh began making the pint-size version in the early 1900's so that children could dress like their fathers.

The Bite

image
Were you wearing overalls last time you ate mac and cheese? Toddle over to the lively restaurant-bar-bakery Akasha for some grown-up comfort food. Chef to the stars and author of Hollywood Dish, Akasha Richmond brings sustainable dining (and drinking) to Culver City. The restaurant, which occupies a historical home, is decked out with Energy Star appliances and fluorescent and LED lighting. And from the Spiked Turkey Burger (organic turkey, jalapeno, red peppers) with organic sides like fries and, yep, mac and cheese, to vegan chocolate chip cookies, Akasha serves what we crave. Organic cocktails and biodynamic wines are on the menu too, which helps us justify our third Red Velvet Margarita (organic tequila, lime, blood orange juice, plus agave) to the bartender...the one in the organic Levis uniform (for reals).

Wanna Try

Akasha, 9543 Culver Blvd. at Watseka, Culver City (310-845-1700). Spiked Turkey Burger, $14.
