SMALL CHANGES ADD UP

If 10,000 LA Biters eat only organic tomatoes instead of conventionally grown varieties, we'll keep 366 gal of chems and pesticides out of the environment every year.

COCKTAIL FACT

Americans eat more than 22 lbs of tomatoes every year; more than half of that is via ketchup and tomato sauce.

The Heir(loom) of Your Ways

The Bite

Have you been snubbing tomatoes that aren't round and red? Open your eyes (and taste buds) to more flavor variety, and get growing with purple, orange, yellow, and even green zebra-striped heirloom tomatoes that haven't been genetically nip-tucked. To start, check out Tomatomania, a huge seedling sale happening this weekend. Look for Stupice and Aussie varieties, or Jaune Flamme, which yields small, sweet orange ones ideal for salads - among the best types to grow in SoCal. Since a seedling costs about the same as a lb of tomatoes at the store, you'll save a few bucks through growing season...and start fixing your salad-fixin' ways.
