High organic food prices giving you the chills?

The Bite:
Before you run scared, if you've only got a little to spend on organics, put it toward produce that typically has the highest pesticide residue. Have no fear, our list is here.
The Benefits:
  • Fewer bloodcurdling chems. Pesticide exposure in children is linked to allergies and asthma, as well as cancer.
  • Not freaking out critters. Pesticides used on conventional produce don't just kill pests - they can harm other animals too.
  • Fewer hair-raising grocery bills. If you're on a tight budget, spend it where it counts.
Personally Speaking:
Durham, NC, mom Lauren Whitehurst buys organic as much as she can for her seven-year-old twins, Jack and Emma, but grapes are high on her list (and EWG's). "They gobble them up like a stand-alone food group," she says.
Wanna Try:
Top 10 produce items you should buy organic:

1. Peaches
2. Apples
3. Bell Peppers
4. Celery
5. Nectarines
6. Strawberries
7. Cherries
8. Lettuce
9. Grapes (if they're imported)
10. Pears

Bang For The Bite

If 10,000 Mama Biters choose an organic apple for their kid instead of regular one, we'll keep the weight of 125 cash registers in pesticide-treated produce out of our kids' growing bodies.
