Kids cruising to school on an empty tank?

The Bite:
Shift gears, and fuel their bodies with an organic, on-the-go breakfast instead of sugary morning foods. These options are healthy for kids and farmland, plus easy to grab when you're racing out the door.
The Benefits:
  • Putting the brakes on toxins. These organic foods are made with ingredients produced without pesticides or synthetic flavors, which keeps chems out of the environment and your kid's body.
  • Revving up for the day. Studies show that kids who eat breakfast are more focused all day at school. Plus, the whole grains and real fruit here deliver nutrition, not just quick calories from refined flours or sugars.
  • Maintaining speed. Bars, muffins, and toaster pastries are all quick, eat-on-the-way options that help get your family outta the house in seconds.

Timeout

Chicago Biter Korey Karnes remembers munching on toasted waffles on the way to school as a kid - seemed odd then, but now she sees her mom was ahead of the curve...or, um, just running late.

Bang For The Bite

If 10,000 Mama Biters give their kids an organic toaster tart instead of a regular one, we'll keep the weight of eight Nascar drivers in foods made with artificial ingredients out of production and kids' bellies.

Every one of these bars and mixes comes wrapped in something and then packed inside a cardboard box. I suppose organic is better than non-organic, but I don't think that over-packaged and over-processed food is the answer. Cooking from scratch is better for the planet, the body, and the budget. For something quick and portable, keep a few boiled eggs on hand and grab a piece of organic produce to go with them.
