The Benefits:
- Beating health risks. Kids are especially vulnerable to 'cides because of their size and activities (think rolling on grass), plus their developing organs can't excrete pollutants as well as adult bodies.
- Getting the hard (boiled) facts. Parks and schools should post signs before any pesticide application, but some also publicize the info online and through email listservs.
Wanna Try:
- Contact your local parks department and child's school and ask how you can access their spraying schedule.
- Encourage your parks and school to implement IPM programs, which put strategies first 'steada chems to reduce pests (i.e., eliminating their food or shelter).
