Nondairy Ice Cream

Is your heart's desire a dairy-free dessert?

07.28.2009

The Bite:
Wish granted: Try a scoop of organic coconut, rice, soy, or hemp ice cream for your kiddo. They're produced without pesticides (or animal products, natch), safe for kids with food allergies, and makes no difference who you are, they taste great.
The Benefits:
  • Indulging allergy-free wishes. If your kids are allergic to milk proteins, lactose (milk sugar), and/or gluten, these alternatives let 'em enjoy frosty treats with no worries...except whether they can have another scoop.
  • Adding only sweet fulfillment. Organic farmers use no GMOs, pesticides, or fertilizers, so our picks only contain the good stuff.
  • Fantasizing about healthier desserts. Nondairy frozen ice creams are lower in fat than regular ice cream. No cholesterol either.
  • Dreamy flavors. Our pint-size squad put their spoons to work (poor them) and picked the cream of the crop.
Personally Speaking:

Wanna Try:
Note: Always check labels - different flavors within brands contain unexpected add-ins that might trigger allergies.

Timeout

Mama Biter Melissa Goldberg has no trouble selling bowls of coconut milk ice cream to Nathan, 2, and Elijah, 5. They're eager to dig in after a hard day of, um, playing.

Bang For The Bite

If 10,000 Mama Biters buy 1 pint of organic, dairy-free frozen dessert rather than a nonorganic one, we'll keep the weight of 67 fair princes in GMO, pesticide-laden ice cream outta kids' bellies.

Another alt. to ice cream or dairy products from the grocery store is local raw milk. Please do a page on, Campaign for Raw Milk. You guys are pro Weston A. Price right? Even the MSN page had article yesterday about how local traditional diets(which vary greatly) have proven to be healthy to said populations.
