Bowl You Over

Wanna spare your house from ho-hum furniture? Strike out to Counter Evolution NYC, and pick up modern and whimsical tables, benches, and countertops repurposed from old wooden bowling lanes. We loved: the Gutter Ball entryway bench, the old-school Score Keeper desk, and the minimalist Brooklyn dining table (see photo for the warm maple-pine mix). Half the world's forests have disappeared over the last century, so opting for a reclaimed-wood piece over a new one keeps trees growing. And if you don't see what you want, chances are CE will make it custom for you. Score.

Wanna Try:

Counter Evolution NYC; at Brooklyn Flea Sundays through Sep. or by appointment at its DUMBO showroom (718-512-5285). Brooklyn dining table, $1,850 (as shown).

Cocktail Fact

Bowling was part of a German religious ceremony in the third and fourth centuries; Christians would attempt to knock over a pin with an object to get out of repenting for their sins.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters purchase a kitchen table made from reclaimed wood instead of virgin wood, we'll keep 42,000 pine trees from being cut down.
