Child's Play

03.04.2009

The Bite:
Wanna chuck(y) your kids' ear-piercing toys? Whether they're yours or not, give your fave kiddling a battery-free toy from Kid O NYC, which just launched a new line of learning-type playthings. Look for sustainably harvested beech-wood puzzles and blocks, plus PVC-free plastic balls and cubes. Each one's designed to help teach kids about shapes, colors, and space. Our fave: the Bilibo, which includes three bulbous shapes that kids can rock in like a chair, crawl under, and spin. Also: geometric and fruit-themed puzzles for the two-and-under crowd. KON's toys won't contribute to the 14 million batteries that end up in landfills each year, and fear not, it's packaging is 100% recycled paper.
Wanna Try:
Kid O NYC, 123 W. 10th St. Map It (212-366-5436). Bilibo, $30.

Cocktail Fact

After the release of Child’s Play, sales of the My Buddy dolls declined; rumor has it because they resembled the evil doll Chucky from the movie.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters opt for a wooden toy instead of a small electronic one for their kiddo, we'll keep enough batteries to fill an Olympic-size pool out of landfills.
