Earth Day Fest

Go Ahead, Make My Earth Day

04.22.2009

The Bite:
Don't mind getting your hands Dirty (Harry)? This Sunday, bring the kiddos (yours or someone else's) to the Central Park Bandshell, and unleash your inner child (minus the tantrums, we hope) by making recycled crafts with Material for the Arts; planting trees and flowers (dress down if you're into this); plus a puppet show, singing, and dancing – you can even hop on the bike-powered sound system to help keep the tunes going. Snack on locally sourced grub from Red Jacket Orchards and Bread Alone, or just pack your own picnic for good times, point blank.
Why Care?:
Be one of more than 1 billion Earth Day partygoers worldwide celebrating locally to raise awareness about climate change, boost the local green economy, and goof off outdoors.
We plan on biking there, and getting the free valet bike parking from Transportation Alternatives, an NYC org that supports walking, biking, and public transit efforts.
Wanna Try:
Earth Day in Central Park 2009; Apr. 26; noon-4 pm. Central Park Naumburg Bandshell; enter at east or west on 72nd St. (212-360-1461).

Cocktail Fact

Sudden Impact (1983) wasn't the first movie to use the line "Make my day" that Clint Eastwood made famous - the 1982 action flick Vice Squad with Fred Berry preceded it.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters plant a tree in honor of Earth Day, in 5 years those trees will absorb the CO2 produced by 981 trucks in a year.
