Majora League

The Bite:

If you see tree-lovin' Majora Carter hittin' it outta the park, give her a high-five. This lifelong Bronx resident and founder of the nonprof Sustainable South Bronx has spent more than 10 years pitching for a greener borough. SSBx encourages locals to get outside (and out of their cars) by funding biking and pedestrian walkways along the South Bronx shoreline, developing job training opps in green-roof technology, and keeping sidewalk trees healthy through urban forestry. Majora scores big on personal sustainability too: Her own green roof helps keep energy costs low and the air clean (The Bronx has a higher rate of asthma than any other borough), and she's an active member of the South Bronx Food Co-Op. We're Majora fans.

Wanna Try:

Majora likes to grab a bite at Landmarc in Tribeca, 179 W. Broadway b/t Leonard and Worth Sts. (212-343-3883).

Cocktail Fact

The Bronx has the largest metro wildlife park in the United States (The Bronx Zoo/Wildlife Conservation Park) with 265 acres of land and more than 4,000 animals.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters keep one houseplant green for a year, we'll clear out CO2 emissions in an area the size of 38 Van Cortlandt Parks (300 acres larger than Central Park).
