Not Your Average Joe

The Bite:
imageLess than excited about the same old souvlaki vendors outside your office? Grab a less ordinary lunch at Pita Joe, where everything's packed into a just-baked white or whole wheat pita made with organic eggs and flour (hit it at noon and you're out in six minutes flat). Four types: Joe Schnitzel (lightly breaded chicken), The Naked Joe (grilled, not fried), Joe in a Pocket (falafel + organic chickpeas), and Purple Joe (eggplant and organic hummus). It's locally sourced (read: less farm-to-plate CO2), Kosher, and open for casual eat-in or takeout (it uses recyclable and biodegradable packaging). On visit #2, we swapped pita for greens and topped with PJ's most popular filler: chicken schnitzel with za'atar spices. One word: Extraordinary.
Wanna Try:
Pita Joe, 2 W. 14th St. and 5th Ave. (212-627-7877). The Naked Joe, $8/whole.

Cocktail Fact

Hummus has been known to help stroke victims recover - it contains the antioxidant isoflavone, which increases blood flow.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters buy one locally sourced lunch instead of one sourced from afar, we'll save enough gas to fill the tanks of 50 NYC hybrid taxi cabs.
