Eco Storage Facility

Pack Rat

05.11.2009

The Bite:
Ready to store your winter coats in the oven for lack of space? Pick up some extra storage at iStore Green. Rent a 5-by-5-foot locker or a 100-by-300-foot studio-like room while you sort out what ski gear to give Goodwill, remodel your own closet, or convince your sig-o to give you more closet space. iSG's Fort Greene storage place stocks eco packing supplies and runs on 100% renewable energy (including solar water heater). It also has reclaimed wood for shelves and a donation collection in case you can unload some stuff up front (buh-bye, Ugg boots).
Why Care?:
Nonrenewable power sources, such as coal, pollute the air and use up finite resources; plentiful wind and solar power do the job without the harmful emissions.
We packed up our stuff using iSG's biodegradable peanuts, old shredded office paper, and reusable packing boxes. And we didn't leave empty-handed - new customers get a reusable tote.
Wanna Try:
iStore Green, 12 Hall St., Brooklyn (718-855-4477). Storage rental, $50/month for 5-by-5-foot locker.

Cocktail Fact

Pack rats (the rodent variety) got their name because they like to nest in attics and collect objects at night for their home - especially shiny stuff like jewelry.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters power their homes with renewable energy, in a year we'll avert the same amount of CO2 as taking 11,363 cars off the road.
