Designer Clothes Resale

Second(hand) Coming

04.15.2009

The Bite:
Closet in need of a springtime resurrection? Witness designer duds rise up at the new Housing Works thrift store in TriBeCa. It's packed with gently used threads (for guys and dolls) from H&M to Banana Republic to Marc Jacobs and Gucci, and like other H-dub locations, there's furniture, books, and art too. Proceeds benefit homeless people with AIDS, and, have faith, you can make room in your closet by donating your old clothes too.
Why Care?:
Buying secondhand keeps jilted - but wearable -  threads outta landfills (each American tosses 68 pounds of clothes each year) and sidesteps CO2 emissions from manufacturing new clothing.
On our last visit, we snagged a pair of Steven Alan Bermuda shorts and a blue Brooks Brothers dress shirt for under $75.

Cocktail Fact

During crucifixion days, prisoners towed only the 100-pound horizontal cross beam - the vertical beam always stood at the crucifixion site.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters donate their has-been clothes 'steada tossing them this year, we'll keep the weight of 2,266 crucifixion crosses in clothing outta landfills.
