The Bite:
Don't wanna take a gamble on your beach vacation? Play it safe (with your wallet and your bod) with a flight-free break to one of our area's cleanest. The NRDC tested once a week for the past 3 years and found 0% (aka less than 5% bacteria) water pollution at these sandy spots. Check out our faves for a high probability of fun.
Why Care?: 
The water may look clean but it can contain trash and harmful bacteria like E. coli.
We scored a Hamptons share this summer but come Labor Day we'll relax/detox in snoozy Avalon with the fam.
Wanna Try: 
Make sure your beach tests water quality (espesh during peak season) and posts signs of contamination. Check the NRDC for complete results.

Long Beach - About an hour away on the LIRR, this stretch is perfect for day trips - never supercrowded and has a mix of families and singles.

Southampton and East Hampton - Chill vibes (as long as P. Diddy doesn't rent one out for his White Party) at Flying Point and Mecox in Southampton as well as Indian Wells and Main Beach in East Hampton.

Fire Island - Party at Ocean Beach, where peeps are drinking, BBQ-ing, and playing sports.

Avalon - Jersey bound? The waters from 9th-40th streets and 57th-76th streets on this family beach are the cleanest.

Main Beach in East Hampton was ranked sixth on coastal expert Dr. Stephen Leatherman's nationwide Top Ten Beaches of 2008.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters support a clean local beach 'steada heading to the Caribbean this summer, it'll have the same CO2-reducing effect as taking 893 cars off the road for a year - and'll encourage other local beaches to clean up too.
