Eco Bank

Show Me the Money

The Bite:
Looking for an eco agent to rep your bills? Cruise over to Bank of America's new midtown, soon-to-be-the-first LEED Platinum skyscraper, with low-emission insulated glass, fresh-air filters (keeping out harmful pollutants), waterless urinals (not as gross as you think), and rainwater collection. And oh yeah, the money part: B of A's now offering paper-free banking, a green mortgage option (lower interest rates for Energy Star-decked homes), and eco credit and check cards that help complete renewable energy projects.
Why Care?:
Only 1% of the world’s water is clean enough for human use; the building’s rainwater system will collect and recycle 40 Olympic-size swimming pools worth of water each year.
With construction winding down on the Bryant Park skyscraper this summer (only the very top is still in progress), we'll have something purty to look at while waiting for the HBO Bryant Park Summer Films to start.
Wanna Try:
Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, 1111 Ave. of the Americas (800-432-1000).

Cocktail Fact

Flatbush National Bank of Brooklyn was the first bank to issue a credit card in 1946.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters switch to online-only banking and statements, we'll conserve enough trees to produce oxygen for 39 people for 1 year.

Bank of America scores horribly on Green America's Responsible Shopper list. I don't care if their new building is LEED certified; it doesn't make up for the scores they get in terms of ethical practices. http://www.greenamericatoday.org/programs/responsibleshopper/industry/ba...
