Bike to Work Day

Spoken For

The Bite:
Are you taken, er, takin' the subway to work next week? Try engaging Bike to Work Week instead - or at least BtW Day, next Friday. Just dust off (or rent) that ol' two-wheeler, grab a bike buddy (safer, more fun), throw on some skinny jeans (no wide-legs catching chains or skirts blowing up), and find your route. Transportation Alternatives will be handing out free Clif Bars, city bike maps, and coffee (from nearby shops) at the Queensboro, Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn bridges, as well as Madison Square Park and City Hall Park. Just make sure you go steady.
Why Care?:
The average NY subway/bus commute produces 1,750 pounds of CO2 a year. Cycling? Zero - and you can't beat the killer glutes.
This weekend, we're taking our old cruiser to Recycle-a-Bicycle for a tune-up and a new lock.
Wanna Try:
Bike to Work Day, May 15. Transportation Alternatives freebies available from 7-10:30 am.

Cocktail Fact

The longest tandem bike ever built was almost 67 feet long, seated 35 people, and weighed as much as a Volkswagen.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters bike to work once this week, it'll have the same CO2-reducing effect as 1,458 full-grown trees.
