City Break: East Hampton

Sticks and Maidstone's

06.19.2009

The Bite:
Think sweltering subways might just break you this summer? Won't hurt to check out The Maidstone in East Hampton. More B&B than hotel, this little getaway's got three guest cottages and a 19-room inn - all outfitted with vintage-y Swedish charm and mod amenities (flat-screen TV, iPod dock, WiFi). Every room's also got a minibar with organic and/or local treats like Fat Ass Fudge (which - warning - lives up to its name), and organic cotton sheets, towels, and robes from Coyuchi. Hit close and superclean Main Beach on one of Maid's free Kronan bikes. Then eat: Peconic pride oysters and a slice of Catapano Farm goat cheese tart with lingonberry sorbet at The Living Room, which uses ingredients from Maid's own herb garden. No bull(y).

Cocktail Fact

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters opt for a meal with locally sourced oysters instead of one shipped from Seattle - it would save 777,150 gallons of diesel fuel.
