Organic Coffee Shop

Think Fast

05.04.2009

The Bite:
…or how 'bout we think for you 'til you get your morning cuppa - grab one from Think Coffee, a hipster hangout serving shade-grown, fair-trade, and organic joe by the cup or pound. TC puts hormone-free milk from Roxbury Farm in all its creamy, delish lattes, capps, and coffees (like its yummy café au lait with soy and vanilla). Itserves lunch too: No prepacked stale sammies here – it's got stuff like fresh paninis and local cheese plates with Camembert from the Old Chatham Sheepherding. It'll donate 10% of profits to the Grand Street Settlement, helping low-income NYC fams. Chop-chop.
Why Care?:
Organic (no pesticides), shade-grown (giving birds a place to nest), and fair-trade (giving workers a living wage for their beans) coffee with hormone-free milk does a body and planet good.
We hit TC twice a week (see ya there?) with our laptops and reusable mugs, order up a large café mocha and organic yogurt, and people watch…er, we mean work.
Wanna Try:
Think Coffee, 248 Mercer St. (212-228-6226). Large coffee, $2/20 ounces; 1-pound bag, $12.

Cocktail Fact

Turkish grooms were once required to make a promise during their wedding ceremonies to always provide their new wives with coffee - failure was grounds for divorce.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters buy a pound of organic, shade-grown, fair-trade coffee instead of the conventional stuff, we'll avert the weight of 556 espresso machines in toxic chems and really improve conditions for workers and wildlife.
